Abstract
Lady Zaynab's (peace be upon her) sermon in Kufa is considered the first public response from the family of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) after the tragedy of Karbala. It was addressed directly to the people of Kufa, who were responsible for the tragedy. In this sermon, Lady Zaynab (peace be upon her) rebuked the people of Kufa for their failure to support Imam Hussein (peace be upon him). This sermon is considered one of the most important historical documents that reveals the injustice inflicted upon the family of the Prophet (peace be upon them) and exposes their enemies. The overall context of the sermon is a rebuke of the people of Kufa. Lady Zaynab (peace be upon her) questions the reason for their outward weeping, deeming them foolish for having torn apart their religion after it had been firmly established, and for having lost all their good deeds before God. Therefore, they deserve God's wrath and eternal punishment. Eloquence and fluency were the two prominent features of Lady Zaynab al-Kubra's (peace be upon her) sermon in Kufa. The audience was impressed by Lady Zaynab's eloquence, as she used her powerful rhetorical skills to expose and humiliate the Umayyad government. Her use of brevity, simile, Quranic quotations, and other means of expression, especially metaphor, in this eloquent sermon was remarkable, enhancing its beauty.
