Abstract
Abstract:
Al-Alusi’s tafsir is distinguished as a Quranic and religious accomplishment, characterized by a style that pays extensive attention to the linguistic and literary aspects of the Holy Quran. The linguistic and literary features occupy a significant portion of his exegesis, which necessitates focused analysis to explore his style and methodology in his interpretation Ruh al-Ma‘ani fi Tafsir al-Qur’an al-‘Azim wa al-Sab‘ al-Mathani, which Al-Alusi carefully studied and elaborated upon.
This study is dedicated to examining the most important aspects addressed by the mufassir in the linguistic and literary fields, including rhetorical, grammatical, and linguistic features, as well as the Quranic narrative, supported by examples drawn from Al-Alusi’s tafsir.
Based on a descriptive-analytical approach, the research concludes that Al-Alusi relied on the science of rhetoric in all its branches—Bayān, Ma‘ānī, and Badī‘—to understand the expressive objectives of the Quran. He frequently engaged with grammarians’ opinions, discussed the grammatical analyses they proposed, and selected and endorsed the most accurate views. In the field of linguistic issues, he provided detailed explanations regarding language jurisprudence, addressing various aspects relevant to understanding the words and language used in the Holy Quran. As for the Quranic narrative, it was a focus of Al-Alusi’s attention to clarify ambiguities and to support the opinion he favored.
