Abstract

Linkage with ancient heritage and especially mythical heritage is one of the main characteristics of contemporary Arabic poetry in general and Egyptian contemporary poetry in particular. Egyptian poets have tried to draw inspiration from myths in order to authenticate their works, as well as to speak more covered and literary and to represent their considered concepts with cryptic and symbolic expression. In this regard, the myth of Isis and Osiris with resurrection secret, again life, immortality and fertility is one of the most important myths of contemporary Egyptian poetry which has a significant and pivotal presence in the theme of their poetries and has helped them to illustrate their personal and non-personal concerns. Abstract

metaphor when linked to ideology becomes as one of the main concepts of critical discourse analysis ,so they will not be decorative elements and out of the discourse cortex anymore; instead they will provide the benefits of the people in an insider group and try to knock the people of an outsider group. This matter greatly appears in kinds of literature which are Anti-Colonial. The Novel “Moden al-Malh” written by “Abdul Rahman Monif” (1933-2004) is one of these kinds in which the Anti-Colonial American Ideology is evident. The writers of this query are trying to study the metaphorical functions considering the Ideological Square of “Van Dijk” by qualitative studies and critical methods. The research achievement shows that Abdul Rahman Monif in "Moden al-Malh"  describing the insider group (the Arabs) by applying metaphor, indicates characteristics such as patriotism, having a revolutionary spirit, alliance and liberalism in the text ; and describing the outsider group (the Americans and the Government) induces characteristics like deception, frustration, interference, cultural invasion and falsehood to the audience . He also has been able to illustrate the conflict among the Arabs on the one hand and the Americans and the Government on the other hand as well. The most important metaphorical function in this novel is the legitimacy of America in the Persian Gulf States that has been simply achieved by leaders supporting them and by giving false secular promises, which of course the writer has maximized the function of metaphor in the above mentioned novel by the use of two instruments of humor and affection.

Abstract

The contrast between tradition and modernity has always been a driving force in the dynamics of various societies. Writers who are deeply invested in their cultural heritage, perceiving their identity intertwined with it, strive to juxtapose traditional elements against modernity while maintaining a profound understanding of their society's past. Joukha Al-Harithi, a contemporary Omani author, and Simin Daneshvar, a renowned Iranian writer, delve into the exploration of women's social status and their strengths and weaknesses within society in their respective works.
In her novel "Naranja," Al-Harithi employs a first-person perspective spanning two distinct time periods to narrate the stories of two generations grappling with an identity crisis situated between tradition and modernity. Daneshvar's celebrated novel "Souvashun" chronicles the experiences of an Iranian family during World War II, as they confront various forms of discrimination and strive to mitigate them.
Given the prominence of the tradition-modernity dichotomy in both novels, this research aims to conduct a comparative analysis of "Naranja" and "Souvashun" through a descriptive-analytical lens, focusing on this particular theme. The findings reveal that both authors utilize female characters to illuminate the contradictions and conflicts arising between tradition and modernity in domains such as marriage, family, rural, and urban life.
A key distinction between the two narratives lies in their temporal representations of tradition and modernity. While "Naranja" contrasts the past as tradition with the present as modernity, "Souvashun" simultaneously depicts both tradition and modernity within a single time frame.

Abstract

Formalism is one of the critical schools of the 20th century, in which, critics concentrate on the structure and form of a literary text without taking into account any extra-textual factors like political, social, psychological etc, The school was founded based on the model of, Jeffery Leach, a linguist who emphasizes on presenting the familiar forms to unfamiliar ones, arguing that de-familiarization of language would lead to astonishment and amazement of the audience. Resorting to a descriptive-analytical method while reviewing the principles of the formalism school, the present research tries to investigate the poetry "who killed Kuwait" by contemporary Kuwaiti poet, Souad al-Sabah at two general and specific levels based on the linguistic model of Jeffrey Leach. The findings reveal that the poet has repeated some consonants and vowels in the composition of the poem to intensify the rhythm and express her latent grief and complaint to unfortunate circumstances of her country, Kuwait; as if she is aware of the effect of consonant and vowel on speech form and its coherence. Furthermore, the poet has applied de-familiarization to avoid automation of the poetry and it has been much influential on poetic aspect of the text and on completion of its meaning.
